Film Lesson Mountains of the Moon

The film Mountains of the Moon was a very interesting movie because it showed two famous trying to find the source of the Nile River. They were Richard Francis and John Hanning Speke. They hired porters to transport supplies, and sometimes during the night they got attacked, or their own porters stole and deserted them. There were also other hardships like misquotes that carried deadly diseases like malaria. Also there were many other bugs that were pests like beetles, like when John Speke gets one in his ear. The weather was very hot and dry and very hard to survive. The reason why Lake Victoria is still named after the British queen is because at the time Great Britain had the power over that area of Africa. Europeans were a lot more advanced then Africans due to the fact that they had binoculars, telescopes and especially guns. And once they were able to get quinine and machine guns, they were easily able to takeover Africa, the africans just had basic spears.

Imperialism Project

We did the Imperialism Project to see how Imperialism works. Imperialism is when one country takes over another one. We showed countries who took over smaller countries for their resources. I remember my group and I coloring in countries who have taken over other countries with the same color so that they could use their valuable resources, like gold, silver, diamonds, slaves etc. We also drew lines for shipping lines overseas. Britain had the majority of the land captured. Mainly Africa and South America there was a lot of land taken over. For their gold, silver, diamonds, sugar, and slaves. Most of the countries that ruled these lands where Great Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, and Belgium. This led to the start of cultural diffusion, when countries start to trade food and culture.
